The Stork Club Orchids

Before the Playboy nightclub chains, the Stork Club in New York was the epitome of American elegance and sophistication for night life. From 1929 until 1965 the club was the icon of American culture. It became the symbol of the elite of cafe society as movie stars, celebrities, showgirls, aristocrats and the wealthy mingled together.

In 1945, the movie, The Stork Club, was produced starring Betty Hutton, Barry Fitzgerald and Don DeFore. In a series of studio tryouts the above models were selected as “the Stork Club Orchids” to appear in the movie in a fashion show sequence. For their daily work out they can be seen wearing the 1945 Jantzen swim line reflecting their status with the latest in styling and glamour.

  1. How lovely. I am sure they now the Stork Club Orchids look back at this photo reminiscing of fine times past..

There are a group of ladies called Decobelles who participate in the Great Gatsby picnic at the Dunsmuir house in Oakland, CA in similar fashion, but today. Perhaps they too wear the Jantzen swim suit, I am unsure..

  2. I am a HUGE fan of the JANTZEN™ brand. I love the products and mission and I admire the massively genius marketing campaigns JANTZEN™ imparts!! It’s really fun and exciting to follow all the changes the JANTZEN™ swim suit has made over the past 100+ years. Having a company survive and flourish over that long of a time span is truly fascinating and relatively unheard of. Now that is what I call American history; Americana at its finest.

I actually just tried to join this site, however, I received a warning from MSN stating— “Reported Phishing Website: Navigation Blocked”. Essentially access was denied.

“Phishing is a way of attempting to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication”

I would have messaged you personally about the matter, only when I tried to find a way to notify you it linked me back to the main JANTZEN™ site. That cannot be good especially if this blog’s security has already been compromised and if the two sites are affiliated then they would both be at risk. I find that very alarming. I'm sending my apologies for the public bulletin because I don’t want to alarm anyone. I know this is a legitimate and professional blog. I definitely needed to let you know assuming you weren’t already alerted of the matter.

Despite everything, I definitely love your site and JANTZEN™ too of course! Keep up all of your amazing posts Dearie!
